In 2007, a 19 years old girl joined a restaurant. She didn’t mind to clean the tables there. Then she raised a fund of more than $10000 from her mom and relatives. She attended the first semester at Ringling College of Art and design with that money. But, after the first semester, she was unable to pay the tuition fees. So that she was forced to dropout. Here her dream to earn the degree on Art was finished.

In 2015, she was featured on the Forbes cover as a game changer titled as 30 under 30! She is none other than Michelle Phan. This Vietnamese American girl build a $500 million business with the help of YouTube.

THE STARTING POINT

I said previously that 2007 was a bad year for her. But the first response she was gotten also on 2007. At the age of 15 years, what she had, was only the dream. She started a blog where she wrote about her dream. In 2007, two of her readers asked her, how she did her makeup. So, Phan made a video of 7 minutes where she showed the process of her makeup. She uploaded the video to YouTube expecting 2 views by those two girls. But it was an unbelievable experience for Phan, that her video got 40000 views on the first week.

This was the turning point of Michelle Phan. After that she started making more videos and posted those to YouTube. She built a big internet community with the help of friends and relatives. Many tips hungry peoples started subscribing her channel. Now she is one of the top earners who is making almost 5 million a year from YouTube. With the last 8 years, the total subscribers of her YouTube channel is more than 8 million.

The biggest turnover on Phan’s career is Ipsy. She founded Ipsy in 2012 and at the end of 2015, it became a $500 million business. This internet sensation is now on her way to her billion dollar unicorn.
